Buying Your Wedding Gown

I’m sure you’ve heard that your wedding invitation sets the tone for your wedding, since it is the first thing that your guests will see. This is definitely true.

Another thing that sets the tone – in a big way – is your wedding dress.

I know it’s tempting to go dress shopping right away after you’ve set the date,

BUT . . .

There is something you should do first.

Before you go dress shopping (or shopping for anything else for your wedding, for that matter), you need to sit down with your fiancé and talk about how you both envision your wedding day.

Talk about the formality, mood and style that you want to convey. Are you looking for a more simplistic look, or something more over-the-top? Do you like lots of sparkly and bling? Prefer something trendy or more classic? Decide what makes sense to both of you.

THEN go dress shopping with this wedding vision in mind. And only look at dresses that fit this vision.

Really, this will save you time and money in the long run.

True story – I had a bride who ended up not liking the wedding gown she purchased. It was a beautiful dress, but she realized that it did not fit what she wanted with the rest of her wedding day. So she ended up buying a second wedding dress. The 2nd dress was absolutely PERFECT, and she looked (and felt) amazing.

Unfortunately you cannot return wedding dresses. Once you’ve bought a wedding gown, it’s yours whether or not you end up wearing it on your wedding day.

So please, put some extra thought and care in making that purchase so you get a gown that’s not just beautiful but is the right one for you and your wedding. You’ll save time and money, and will have a wedding gown that you will absolutely LOVE!
