Most couples now discuss marriage long before anyone proposes so, for the most part, you don’t need to worry about what the answer will be (you already know!). But even though you know your partner is likely to say ‘yes’, the pressure to propose in the most romantic way possible can be almost too much to bear. So, from the perfect ring to a most Instagrammable picture, here are a few tips to create a unique marriage proposal that is special to you.

When searching for just the right ring, it’s no wonder so many couples choose to design their own rings. Ring concierge prices are often surprisingly affordable and if you are after something other than a basic diamond ring, this is a wonderful way to find it.
However, choosing the ring doesn’t have to be a solo pursuit. Many couples now choose an engagement ring together so that the fit and style is perfect. This makes sense, especially if you have been discussing marriage and both know what you want. If you want it to be a surprise, you can always propose with a with a cheaper stand-in on the day, then go together to choose the actual ring at a later time.
Deciding on a Location
Finding the best location for a proposal can be an art in itself. This will be one of the most romantic moments of your life, which makes the location so important. There are a lot of places and ways you could propose but the key question is whether you want to propose publicly, with friends and family, or just the two of you.
It’s really important that you also know what your partner would want for this. For some, going to a secluded spot is the perfect chance to feel like the only two people in the world, for others, finding the ring in a slice of cake at a restaurant is the most wonderful kind of surprise.
Taking a Picture to Mark the Occasion
The engagement picture is something of a phenomenon these days and if you’re not on Instagram, did it even happen? You can both get creative with your engagement photo with everything from props to a simple picture of the two of you holding hands.
If you want to take a picture of the proposal itself, one smart way is to suggest a timed picture together. Place your camera so you get both of you and your background then set the camera to take several images. This should get you going down on one knee and your partner’s response too.
However you propose, just remember that this is about the two of you. You don’t have to follow tradition or go out of your way with a grand gesture if that’s not your style. What makes a unique marriage proposal is what makes it work for the two of you, and that’s why it’s so magical.
