15+ Creative Ideas for Your Wedding Table Numbers

I’ll bet you haven’t thought too much about your wedding table numbers. Not your seating chart, but the things that will actually be placed on your reception tables. After all, they’re pretty straightforward so they don’t need much thought — right?

All they do is tell guests which table is which — right?

Wrong. Well, sort of.

Yes, wedding table numbers do identify the individual tables from your seating chart, and are there to assist your family and friends as they make their way to their seats. But why not have your wedding table numbers be more than just something functional? Although that is their primary function, having table numbers as focal decorative elements on reception tables is on the up-swing, and they often coordinate with or are created to be part of the centerpieces.

Besides telling your guests which table is which, wedding table numbers also add:

1. A pop of color

2. Bold patterns

3. Unexpected texture

4. A personalized touch

5. Table numbers also accentuate your centerpiece, making your tables look fully decorated.

Unlike most decorations, because they are functional, wedding table numbers aren’t just for aesthetics. You actually NEED table numbers, or guests won’t have a clue where you want them to sit. No one wants to be wandering around, not knowing what table to go to, after they’ve picked up their escort cards.

And since you do need them, you might as well pick out numbers that double as cool décor. They’re a prominent part of your table décor, so make your wedding table numbers interesting. This is achieved in many different ways, including:

• • Printed on card stock that matches your color scheme

  

  • • Are die cut from glitter card stock

    

    • • Has a texture or design that coordinates with your invitations or wedding theme

      

      • • Made from other materials, such as wood slices, cast iron, acrylic, stone

      • 

        

        You can also give the tables names instead of sequentially numbering them. This also adds another fun element for your guests, as they’ll want to see what the other tables are named. No one has ever thought, “Hmmm, I’m at table 12. I wonder what the other table numbers are?” But if you name your tables your guests will be thinking, “I’m at ‘Deer,’ I wonder what the other tables are called?”

      • 5. TV Shows (Glee, Psych, Grey’s Anatomy)

        

        6. Artists (Picasso, Monet, DaVinci)
      • 7. TV / Movie Couples (Fred & Wilma, Lucy & Ricky, Cinderella & Prince Charming)
      • 8. Favorite actors / actresses (Fred Astaire, George Clooney, Jennifer Lawrence)
      • 9. “Marriage” or “Love” in different languages (Marriage – Welsh: Priodas, Latvian: Lauliba / Love – Swahili: Upendo, Estonian: Armastus)

        10. Vintage cars (Corvette, Model T, Duesenberg, Lagonda)
      • 11. Superheroes (Iron Man, Thor, Green Arrow)

        13. Romantic Song Titles (Endless Love, Crazy In Love, We Found Love)

        Or if you like the idea of numbers, but don’t want to do the typical sequential 1, 2, 3, 4, . . ., you can choose numbers that hold some significance to you and your partner. These numbers can correspond to the:

        • Months of you and your partner’s birthdays
        • Date that one of you first said “I love you”
        • Your ages when you first met
        • The day you got engaged
        • The number of weeks of your engagement
        • Street address of your favorite restaurant
        • Day of your first date
        • Year you met
