5 Fun Socially Distanced Wedding Reception Games

Socially Distanced Wedding Reception Games
Games are a great way to get your wedding guests involved. I mean, who doesn’t love games? But since we still have to comply with Social Distancing at wedding receptions, what are some wedding reception games that involve everyone?

Here are 5 socially distanced wedding reception games that the whole room can play:

1) Wedding Couple Mad Libs

Get marriage and love advice from your family and friends with a Mad Libs. Your guests can play individually or have each table be a “team,” and get to share their thoughts on where to go on “married dates,” and other words of wisdom, such as:

Make sure you always __________ and never _________.
On your 50th anniversary, take a trip to _______________.
A lasting marriage is built on _________ & _________.

2) Couple’s Crossword

Wedding puzzles are fun, but those that feature clues about the happy couple are way more interesting. So why not have a crossword puzzle based on you and your partner. Guests can show off how much they know about you, and get to learn something new. Not sure how to create a crossword puzzle. Here’s an easy-to-use puzzle generator.

3) Wedding Bingo Variations

Wedding Bingo was often used as an ice breaker to encourage mingling. Right now, as mingling is a no-no and socially distanced wedding reception games is vital, here are a couple wedding bingo variations that your guests can play from their seats.

Song Bingo
Their bingo cards will have the names of classic wedding songs (or other songs that you will be playing at your reception).

Wedding Toast Bingo
Wedding toasts and speeches are often sentimental, but can have the cliché statement or two. We’ve all heard the silly joke (if I’m the best man, how come Sue married Mark instead of me?), the goofy intro (“In the interest of not saying anything rude or possibly offending anyone, I’ve omitted any controversial material from my toast. [Long pause] Thank you and good night.”) And we’ve all heard the serious sentiments of “Perfect for each other” or “Where do I begin?”

For those of you who don’t know me
On a serious note

But make sure you don’t copy off identical grids. You’ve gotta change up where each one is on the grid, or everyone will be yelling “Bingo!”

4) Shoe Game

I’m sure you’ve seen this game played. The bride and groom sit back to back, and hold one of their shoes, and one of their partners. Their DJ then asked several questions like “Who was the first to say ‘I love you?’,” “Who is more romantic?,” and “Who will make the morning coffee?”. Then the bride and groom hold up one shoe indicating their answer.

It’s fun to let your guests ask some questions too, but this game goes smoother if you provide the DJ with a list of questions in advance (no waiting for people to think of a question).

A fun variation is the Group Shoe Game where your guests get involved by holding up signs of the bride or the groom for the answers. Your guests will have fun guessing the answers!

5) Bride and Groom Trivia

Provide a list of fun trivia questions about the couple for guests to answer. After your guests have completed their lists, you could have someone collect them and tally up the correct answers. But let’s keep the fun going. Have your DJ go question by question and ask a few tables for their answers (“Question #1 – Where did the happy couple meet? Table 3, give me an answer! Table 7, give me an answer! Happy couple, what is the correct answer?”). After the couple tells the correct answer it’s on to the next question (with the DJ asking different tables for their answers). Your guests will mark their own answer sheets right or wrong, and whoever has the most correct answers wins.

Bride and Groom Trivia Questions Ideas:
• Where did they get engaged?
• How long have they been together?
• Where did they go on their first date?
• What is the groom’s favorite drink?
• What is the bride’s favorite movie?
• What is the couples dream vacation?

Don’t let your guests’ hard work go unnoticed. After each game, award the winners of these games with something as simple as bragging rights or something more substantial like a box of chocolates or bottle of wine.
