Wedding Q & A – What Do I Put On The RSVP Card?

Trying to figure out what goes on the RSVP card when you’re designing your invitation suite?

what goes on the rsvp card - letterpress rsvp card

I get a lot of questions from brides about the RSVP, (or Response, card), particularly what to put on the RSVP card. So for the next couple weeks I’ll be posting some of the most common questions about these small, but very important, cards.

Starting with . . .

Q. What goes on the RSVP card?

A. The point of the RSVP card is for guests to let you know whether or not they will be attending. Really, it’s to get a simple “yes” or “no”.

What Goes On The RSVP Card

The 4 key elements you want on your RSVP cards:

1. First of all, put what you want the guests to do
The favor of a reply is requested

2. When they should reply by
on or before July 30, 2014

(Or, like in the above photo, you can combine the two and put Please respond by July 30th)

3. Where they indicate who is replying
M ____________________
and they will fill in the appropriate name(s)

4. Where they indicate if they will or will not be attending
_____ Will attend
_____ Not able to attend

There are other things you can include beyond these 4 key elements that have to be on an RSVP card.

5. If you are giving your guests a choice of entrée:
Please initial each entrée choice for each guest
_____ Prime Rib
_____ Chicken Kiev
_____ Mushroom Lasagna

6. With food allergies and restrictions being more prevalent these days, you may also want to add a line such as:
Please note any food allergies/dietary restrictions
__________________________________________

7. Or add a fun touch like asking for song requests:
I’ll definitely be on the dance floor if you play
