When it comes to getting married, it’s safe to say that there’s a lot you have to cover. There’s a reason why the word Bridezilla exists. Stress levels can soar, and even the most uninvolved of the wedding party and guests can feel it. But it doesn’t have to be hard, especially when it comes to your wedding photography and the photos taken to capture your day. After all, you want to be able to look back on your special day and remember it for the beautiful occasion it was.

Luckily for every bride and groom, there’s a wealth of expert wedding photographers out there to help you make it happen. To make sure that you’ll have a wide range of the entire day photographed, let’s take a look at the key things you and your expert wedding photography team should take care of on the day.

The Bride Getting Ready

The morning of your wedding, as you are getting ready, adrenaline kicks in, and you may find yourself getting swept away in the moment and not really taking in what’s going on. This is often why it’s such a lovely idea to have your photographer come and take a few snaps of you getting ready with your bridesmaids. You may even be able to capture some other great memories from the morning too. Not everyone will be comfortable with this, but it can often be a great starting point for your memories.

The Groom Getting Ready

While your husband-to-be is getting ready with his groomsmen, you may even want to get some keepsakes of these moments too. Again, this will be up to what you and your groom wants, as he may not want to have a photographer fussing around before the big moment. But just as it can be nice for you to remember the morning, he may want to too.

The Dress & Shoes

As you’re getting ready, it might be nice for your photographer to take some snaps of your dress and shoes. You are definitely going to want some detailed snaps of you getting into it too, but shots of the dress hanging or your shoes styled around the room can be really pretty too. Definitely look into some inspiration for this, as when you have a stunning wedding dress, you definitely want to make sure you show it off in the best light.

The Bride Leaving

Then it’s onto those precious moments when you’re leaving for the ceremony itself. If you’re leaving from your home or your parental home, this can often be a moment to savor. However, regardless of where you are, it’s nice to document the moment you made your way to getting married.

The Groom Arriving

We’re going to hope that when you’re on your way, your groom is already there ready and waiting. In many circumstances, the groom and groomsmen will be there before the guests. So, this is a great chance for your photography team to get in some snaps of them awaiting your arrival. The timing here will be crucial, but it can be nice to catch those few moments before your ceremony takes place.

The Ceremony

And, of course, you’re going to want to make sure that you get some really gorgeous shots of the ceremony itself. This is something that you should talk through with your photographer, but you could also look at some inspiration beforehand too. The ceremony photography you want is going to vary based on your personal taste, and the wedding photography style you’re going for. If you will be getting married in a house of worship, make sure to find out their photography guidelines, and be sure to share that with your photographer before your wedding day.

Groups

Then you’ve got the group shots. They can be quite dramatic, especially if you have a lot of guests attending. Whether you choose to do a group shot of the wedding party and guests, or just smaller photos of family members and friends, you’re going to need to plan this out beforehand so that your photographer can work out the timing.

Staged/Posed Shots

Up next, you’ve got some of the more staged shots. This is usually where you can get a bit more creative with your styling and the kind of photography used. Take a look at these photo ideas if you want to try something different and interesting. Ideally, your photographer will be able to guide you here, but if you do have some creative ideas to consider before the big day, be sure to make these known and schedule them in.

Guests

You may want to think about the kinds of photography that your guests can get involved in. For this, you could consider hiring photo booths from somewhere such as Booth Boy or putting disposable cameras on the tables for people to snap away with. You may even want to go old school and use polaroids which is more like a combination of the two.

The First Dance

And finally, you’ve also got the first dance to capture. Of course you’re going to want to make sure that your photographer snaps away while you’re dancing, but you might also want to consider filming it too. It is quite an emotional moment. Whether you’ve worked with something choreographed or not, this could be something that you want to remember forever and photography can’t always bring the moment to life as much as a video can.
