You have waited years for your special day. You may have dreamt of it since way back when you were four years old and dressing up as a bride. And now, you’ve got the ring on your finger and a wedding to plan. Finally, your dreams are coming true, and the waiting is over – for the day itself. But what about those things that can make guests have to wait (the #1 thing wedding guests hate).
Most weddings involve a fair amount of waiting around. From the moment you wake on the day, you’ll be waiting to arrive, waiting for those snaps to end, or waiting for the meal. You could say that waiting forms the very backbone to the majority of wedding days out there. This is enough to drive you crazy as the bride, so think what it does to your guests!
We’ve all been to a wedding where we stand around and wait for things to get going. Then we return home sigh with relief that the whole thing is FINALLY over. But, that shouldn’t be the lasting impression your day leaves. That’s why we’re going to look at some simple ways that you can more than halve your wedding day waiting.
1. Let Guests Sit Down
Before the day gets going, the majority of weddings see guests around standing. This is usually the typical scene of painful introductions and stilted small talk. That’s not the right note on which to start. Instead, try and arrange for guests to sit down straight away. The process of finding seats is sure to fill some time. You could also include a fun activity like a fun notecard for your guests to write a sweet note or words of advice. They could leave these on their seats for you and your groom to read later. It’s fun for everyone, and it does away with the need for compulsory chatter.
2. Re-think The Meal
Waiting for the meal is certainly awkward. Again, guests often have to make strained conversation with table fellows until the food arrives. And, goodness knows how long that could take. This can be avoided with a little pre-planning. For a served meal, make sure your caterers have an appropriate staff to guest ratio (1 staff member per 10 – 12 guests), as this will help eliminate delays in some tables getting their food. If you opt for a buffet instead, have the table double sided, that way twice as many guests can go through the line.
The right company to tackle your catering, can give you smooth service and an elegant buffet, ensuring good food, without all that awkward stuff.
3. Select More Candid Photography
Let’s be honest; waiting at weddings doesn’t get worse than during the photographs. In some cases, these can take hours as your guests attempt to mingle while they wait. But, it doesn’t have to be that way. By selecting one of the many fantastic candid photographers out there, you ensure your photos don’t involve any waiting at all. Also, be selective in posed photos you want. Go with more group shots than pics with individual people. By doing more group shots and candids, your photographer will move among you all and capture the action rather than slowing the whole day down.
Follow these easy tips to keep your day moving and eliminate the dreaded waiting that wedding guests hate.
