Getting Your Marriage Proposal Just Right In 4 Easy Steps

Planning on proposing to the love of your life can be as stressful or worrisome as planning for the wedding day itself. Just like the wedding day, you want to make sure that your marriage proposal goes as smoothly as possible, and not get muddled up along the way.

However, it is one thing to want this, and quite another to know how to actually go about getting it. The truth is that there is something of an art to the perfect proposal, and it can take a great deal of practice to get it just right.

Let’s take a look at what you might need to consider, to help ensure that you can get your marriage proposal just right. Focus on the following elements and your marriage proposal should go considerable smoother. And who knows? Instead of an ‘ok’ or ‘yes,’ you might be more likely to get a resounding ‘YES!’

1. Have Confidence

It takes a great deal of calm and poise to be able to propose to someone, and the more successfully you get your head in the game, the better off you will be. With that in mind, make a point of trying to be as confident as you can be. Not just in the actual moment but throughout the day as well. This will help to steel your nerve, and will also mean that your partner is much less likely to suspect that you are up to something.

If you generally struggle with confidence, you might want to think about finding some confidence building technique. Then, by employing those techniques on the day, you’ll make it so much easier for yourself (and enjoyable for you and your partner).

2. Where and When

It’s vital that you are proposing in the best location you can find for the situation. Believe it or not, figuring out ‘where’ can take up much of your ‘proposal planning’ time. Look for somewhere that will be enjoyable for the both of you, but not too suspect as a place you might propose.

You might think the perfect marriage proposal location is hard to come by, but as long as you put some thought and effort into it you should be able to find something soon enough.

Once you are happy with whatever place you have found, you will then want to also think about another important issue of placement: that is, the timing. The timing involves the day (a Wednesday evening has a different vibe than a Saturday afternoon, for example), as well as the moment you choose to for the actual proposal (you aren’t going to blurt it out the second you sit down to dinner, or set foot in that beautiful garden).

3. Photography

Chances are, you (and your partner) will want some way to be able to remember this momentous occasion. Generally, that means having photographs and/or video taken on the day, especially during and after the big moment itself. One of the best approaches here is to hire proposal photographers who will be able to hide away and take photographs at just the right moment.

This is a great way to enhance your memories of day, and it gives you a great memento to share with family and friends. Alternatively, you could of course just take some photos yourself, or have a friend or family member do so. These are unlikely to be quite as polished as what professional photographer or videographer will produce, but they’ll still give you lovely mementos of the event.

4. Practice

They say “Practice makes perfect,” and something that most people would agree on is that the perfect proposal takes practice. If you don’t practice, chances are that you will be less likely to come away with the feeling you wanted, and it may make it harder for you to actually propose.

Be sure to practice in front of a mirror, and be sure to give some thought of what you would like to say. While you don’t have to adhere to a script, the clearer you are on, the more easily you’ll be able to approach it, and you will have much more luck in making it work the way you want.

Sure, you can propose, and get a “yes” without these tips, but by approaching the marriage proposal with them in mind, you’ll have a proposal, (and the events surrounding it) that is smoother, less awkward, and overall more memorable for you both.
