Are you considering a non-traditional wedding ceremony in the “great outdoors?” If so, with an outdoor wedding ceremony site, it’s even more important to be flexible with your plans. Planning a wedding at an outdoor venue requires both a “Plan A” and a “Plan B” in case uncooperative weather prevents your wedding from being held in your outdoor setting.
I don’t want to discourage you from having the wedding you want, but it really is important to have a back up plan in place.
There are many reasons for choosing an outdoor setting for your wedding:
• It’s a great option for couples of different religious faiths
• It is also the perfect choice if you love the outdoors
• Someone in your family has extensive gardens or grounds (which may hold sentimental value)
• You can save money on decor, as Mother Nature has already provided decorations
• There are often less restrictions for an outdoor setting, so you’ll have more freedom
• The cost for the venue can be less than a traditional venue
• You can be as fancy or casual as you want
• Eliminates any existing decor or color schemes that may clash with your desired wedding aesthetic
• Think of all those gorgeous photos
But sometimes bad weather can sneak up on us.
So you don’t end up getting married in a torrential down pour, severe wind storm, or other inclement weather conditions, have a second venue in place.
If possible, have your “Plan A” and “Plan B” sites on the same grounds or facility, as it makes it so much easier to carry out last minute changes. And you won’t have to post someone at the to-be-unused “Plan A” site to inform guests to go to a different location. Spreading the word to your guests is easier as they’ll already be on site.
If you’re unable to do a “Plan B” at the same location as your original site, keep the plans simple. Certain plans will already have to be in place prior to the wedding day (such as having several umbrellas available to renting a second “Plan B” venue or tent and chairs), and it the weather turns out beautiful, you’ll still be responsible for paying for the unused “Plan B” location and rentals.
Of course, we’re always keeping our fingers crossed for lovely weather. But no matter the weather, if you get married at your outdoor wedding ceremony site or have to move to another location, at the end of the day you’ll be married to the love of your life.
