In previous years, I posted my predictions for the upcoming wedding trends of the new year. This year, I’m putting my crystal ball away, and sharing 2020 wedding trends as determined by wedding pros from around the country.
Florals
Used in Unexpected Ways
Many flowers are edible, and can be used in salads, to embellish desserts, and even in ice cubes.
Less “Fancy” More “Fresh Picked”
More couples are opting for flowers and floral decor that is locally grown, and are using more greenery and dried flowers for a more natural look.
Live potted plants, rather than cut stems, will be used for centerpieces.
Pampas Grass
Pampas grass is budget friendly, and with those tufted plumelike clusters, you’ll get that “Wow” effect without breaking the bank.
Make-up
Natural and Polished
More and more brides are choosing makeup and hair styles with a natural vibe. They want to look like themselves with makeup and hair that enhances their natural, day-to-day beauty, only a bit more polished for their wedding day. (I think we can all agree that we can thank Meghan Markle for this trend).
Food and Drink
Comfort Foods
Perennial favorites like sliders, mac and cheese, and pizza will be seen at weddings this year. From appetizers, entrees, and even end-of-the-evening snacks.
Self-Serve Beverage Stations
From bottles of wine on the guests’ tables, to glass beverage dispensers, and margarita bars gets guests involved. Provide various mix-ins and garnishes, and “accessories” such as festive napkins and swizzle sticks to add to the fun.
Attire & Accessories
Barrettes, Blingy Hair Pins, and Combs
Instead of tiaras, more brides will be donning pretty barrettes and combs. Styles can be as simple or elaborate as you want. You can even wear them after your wedding day!
Green Weddings
I’m not talking about your wedding color palette, (although have you seen “Chive” and “Biscay Green” from Pantone’s Spring/Summer 2020 NYFW Color Palette?)
More couples will be striving for more eco-friendly and zero-waste options. From resetting stones from family heirlooms for jewelry, to avoiding paper and plastic “one use” plates and flatware, and locally sourced food items.
Other green wedding trends include having guests RSVPing via a website or email, and choosing recycled paper stock for invitations and other printed materials.
