From getting ready to your special getaway, there are many precious moments you’ll want to remember from your wedding day. And there’s no better way to do so than with video. But with everything going on that day, what are the must-have wedding moments to capture on video?
Photography captures a single instant, a fraction of a second, but videography captures the events themselves as they unfold. One of the most common complaints couples have after their wedding day is, “I don’t remember half of what happened on my wedding day! It went by all too fast!” Having a video of your wedding day will allow you to see and hear everything that happened so you don’t have to miss a thing.
The following are 8 must-have wedding moments to capture on video:
1. Getting-Ready Shots
Some shots during the finishing touches as you and your partner are getting ready with your guys and gals. Also get some shots with your mom. Perhaps a quiet moment with the bride and mom, maybe mom’s helping with putting on a special necklace. Intimate, but not too personal, but oh so special.
Don’t forget to include dad, as well as your partner’s parents.

First Looks are getting more and more popular. And why not? With all of the busy-ness of the day, a first look gives you and your partner a little quiet moment for just the two of you. Your partner’s reaction to seeing you for the first time is priceless indeed.
But what if you want to follow the tradition of not seeing each other before the ceremony? No problem, as you can do a First Touch instead (by holding hands while standing on either side of a door or partition, or stand back-to-back).
3. Your Partner’s Reaction
as you are walking down the aisle. If you do a First Look, don’t think for a moment that it will take away from the specialness of your partner seeing you walk down the aisle. That moment embodies the realness of the day, and all the emotions that go with it. That look of love and joy will be precious, so be sure to capture it.
4. The Vow Exchange
The ceremony, and in particular your vows, are the reason for the day, and is one of the most important wedding moments to capture on video. Make sure your videographer captures this particularly special moment. Make sure your videographer has put a mic on you or your partner, or on the officiant, so every love-filled word is captured.
5. The Kiss
I mean, how can you not have The Kiss in your wedding video. And short of a dire emergency or mishap, shame on any videographer who misses The Kiss.
6. Special Guests
Sure, the wedding day is about you and your partner, and the new adventure you are embarking on. And throughout the day, your videographer is sure to capture your wedding party and parents as they participate in the ceremony, give toasts, and dance the night away. You’ll most likely have some guests who aren’t part of the toasts, and may not be into dancing, but are enjoying your wedding day just the same. Who are these ultra-special guests? Your grandma and grandpa. Make sure your videographer gets shots of them as they’re watching and enjoying the festivities.
7. Interviews/Well Wishes From Your Guests
Some may think that guest interviews on wedding videos are a bit cheesy, and sometimes they can be. But . . . that is not the point of having them. Gonna get real here. There will come a time when you can no longer have the opportunity to see someone’s face or hear their voice. People grow apart. People move. People pass away. So when your videographer does these little interviews with your guests, you will always be able to see and hear your loved ones, and feel the joy and love they have for you.
35 percent of couples admit that if they could do one thing over again, they’d go back and hire someone to film their wedding day
8. Additional Moments
Are there any cultural, religious, or family traditions that you will include on your wedding day? Make sure to tell your videographer, (as well as your photographer, dj, and wedding coordinator) about these prior to your wedding day. Otherwise, if there is something they aren’t familiar with, they won’t be expecting it, and it could be easily overlooked. And we all know that there are no do-overs on a wedding day.
Wedding videos are something you will never regret investing in. In fact, according to The Huffington Post “35 percent of couples admit that if they could do one thing over again, they’d go back and hire someone to film their wedding day”, and “25 percent of people who did hire videographers still wish they spent more money on the service.”
With a beautiful wedding video, you can relive your wedding day (and see those little moments you may have missed), can share with loved ones who were unable to attend your wedding, and have a beautiful family heirloom to pass down to generations to come. And make sure your videographer knows which wedding moments to capture on video so you don’t have any regrets.
