All weddings are special, of course, but it’s also true that some of them can often feel quite “samey.” There’s just an established way of doing things, and with so many weddings taking place, it’s not unusual for it to sometimes be difficult to differentiate one from another. But the good news is that if you’re getting married, there are things you can do that’ll help your special day stand out for all the right reasons. In this post, we’re going to run through some of the key things you can do to make your wedding stand out.
1) The Venue
You can get married anywhere these days, but will just anywhere do? If you want to have a wedding that’ll be extra special, then it’s important that you find the right wedding venue – one that fits you and your partner’s personalities, is maybe a little out-of-the-box as far as typical wedding venues go, or one that you can dress up to make the space more “you.”
Getting the perfect place won’t just make your day more romantic; it’ll also help set the tone for the guests. There’s nothing like arriving at a wedding and seeing that the venue is absolutely beautiful. Plus, it’ll be the backdrop for all your wedding photos, so you want it to look great!
2) The Party and Food
Your wedding guests will come to the wedding, first and foremost, to watch you and your partner get hitched, but they’re going to stay for the party and celebration afterwards. And the two elements of your reception that will have the biggest impact on your guests? The music and the food – so be sure to get these two elements of the wedding just right. A great meal will not only ensure everyone is well-fed (no one is going to want to stick around if they are hungry), but will create a certain ambience.
You don’t have to choose a super fancy, expensive menu. The “tried and true” will work, but why not make your wedding stand out by kicking it up a notch or two? Instead of macaroni and cheese, how about including some crispy Fried Mac & Cheese Balls. Or instead of lobster tail, serve Lobster Sliders. Talk to your caterer for creative ideas.
For the party, look at hiring a live band to get things warmed up, and then bring on a DJ that knows how to keep everyone on the dance floor.
An underrated tip for ensuring the party goes on all night long is to create a “chill out” space where people can rest, talk, etc., in between trips to the dance floor.
3) The Surprises
Finally, why not look at adding a surprise or two to the proceedings? People know what to expect at a wedding, and there’s nothing wrong with sticking with tradition if that’s what you want. But you can make things extra special (and extra memorable) for them by adding a couple of things that they don’t expect. It could be an unusual décor installation (suspend flowers from the ceiling above your cake table or sweetheart table), or unexpected entertainment (a magician going table to table, performing close-up tricks), or even have games outside for guests to enjoy.
4) The Guest List
While no two guest lists are ever the same, thought and care is still needed when coming up with “the list.” The bride and groom set the tone for the wedding, but the guests can ultimately make (or break) it. Of course, coming up with a wedding guest list that pleases everyone isn’t always the easiest thing in the world (and honestly, save yourself the stress by not worrying about pleasing everyone). It’s likely that you’ll have some people you feel you have to invite, but it’s important that you don’t fill the list with too many of those folks. Think of it this way, if you are only inviting them out of obligation, they may only be attending out of obligation as well. So fill it with people you really want to be there and who you know will add to the celebration and the great atmosphere of your wedding day.
