How To Help Prepare Your Flower Girl For The Wedding

The flower girl is often the cutest member of your wedding party (unless your dog is part of the wedding celebrations). However, as this is likely their first time attending a wedding, it can be a little overwhelming. After all, they’ll be on their feet for most of the day, and surrounded by chaos. This could open the door to tantrums, or simply stop them from having as much fun as they can.

However, by helping prepare your flower girl for the wedding day, you’re making it a lot easier for them to handle. This way, they can focus on having just as much fun as everyone else!

With that in mind, here are 5 simple steps you can follow to help your flower girl prepare for your wedding.

5 Ways to Prepare Your Flower Girl For The Wedding

1. Let them pick their own dress

One of the easiest ways in which you can help your flower girl(s) get excited about your wedding is by letting them choose their own dress. While you may have a particular style in mind, give them a few different flower girl dresses to choose from. Giving them the choice will make them feel special, and as though they are a ‘grown up’. It also gives you the chance to chat about the wedding and talk about all the fun you will have together.

2. Talk them through the day

Asking a family member or friend’s little one to be a flower girl is a great way to include children in your wedding day, and while many will jump at the chance to wear a pretty dress all day, you should also let them know what to expect. For example, you should tell them details about the venue, ceremony, and how you are traveling from place to place. This will again help them to feel a little more comfortable.

3. Buy comfortable shoes

Comfortable shoes are the ultimate party accessories, especially for a flower girl. Remember, it doesn’t really matter whether the shoes are the perfect matches for the dress – they need to be comfortable! You may also want to buy a change of clothes for later in the day, especially if your flower girl is adventurous (or a messy eater).

4. Give a member of the bridal party responsibility over the flower girl

On your big day, your focus and attention will be on you and your partner. As a result, you should ask another member of the bridal party to be responsible for the flower girl, helping her to get ready and ensure she’s always where she needs to be. Ideally, this should be a person that she already knows and feels comfortable with.

5. Have snacks on hand

As mentioned above, your wedding day is a long day. As a result, you should ensure you have plenty of snacks on hand (or perhaps in your flower girl’s parents’ hand), to ensure she stays in high-spirits and energy all day. Snacks and drinks can also be effective tools for keeping children quiet during important moments throughout the day, such as during speeches.
