March 1st is National Wedding Planning Day. It comes at the perfect time of the year, since the holiday falls right after peak engagement season, which is from Thanksgiving through Valentine’s Day. (Did you know that nearly 40% of all engagements occur during this time?)
Haven’t heard of it? That’s okay, since National Wedding Planning Day is a relatively new holiday, not even 10 years old yet. It was founded in back in 2017 by Carley Roney, the co-founder of The Knot. And the point of this day is simple – it’s to celebrate getting started on your wedding planning journey.
How To Celebrate National Wedding Planning Day
So, you may be wondering how you celebrate this holiday. Really, it’s fairly simple, as the point of this holiday is to get started with your wedding plans, not to get all of your wedding planning done. According to National Today, the National Wedding Planning Day Activities are:
1. Follow The Knot on social media
The Knot offers couples a great variety of ideas and helps to get them started on their journey to the big day. Follow @theknot on social media to send in all your questions and gain access to their conversation platform. From there, you’ll be able to chat directly with The Knot’s experts for personalized, one-on-one wedding planning advice.2. Start making a to-do list
National Wedding Planning Day encourages newly engaged couples to start getting serious about their wedding plans. The first way to do that is by making a to-do list of all the things you need to get done before your big day.3. Book a wedding planner
To avoid turning into ‘groomzilla’ and ‘bridezilla,’ book a professional wedding planner to do all the hard work for you. If you’re not looking to be too hands-on with the planning, and wish to only offer your wishes and have others flesh them out, then finding a wedding planner will be your best bet. Gather your inspiration, call a wedding planner, and get planning!

National Today’s list is great. Simple, but perfect for getting started with your plans. However, I’d like to add the following to it.
1. Follow other wedding planning sites on social media as well. Some of my favorites are:
• @wedbyjean (on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest) (Yep, those are my sites – take a look and let me know what you think)
Some others that I follow are:
• @budgetsavvybride (on Facebook & Instagram)
• @bridaltweet (on Twitter, Facebook, & Instagram)
• @greenweddingshoes (on Facebook & Instagram) and @grnweddingshoes (Twitter)
• @kmichweddings (Facebook & Instagram)
2. Why make your to-do list from scratch, potentially forgetting to add something to the list. Or forgetting some types of lists altogether? I’ve compiled all of those lists, checklists, and worksheets into one book, From “I Will” to “I Do” soon to be available on Amazon.
3. Maybe you do want to be hands-on with all of your wedding plans. But then again, maybe you want to be hands-on with just certain aspects, and are wanting someone else to handle other aspects. A wedding planner is not “all or nothing” but can offer as much or as little help as you need.
So a big “Congratulations!” to all of the couples who recently got engaged. Have fun with your National Wedding Planning Day celebration. And get started on those wonderful plans!
