On your wedding day, it’s a no brainer that you’re going to want to look your best. And how better to do that then with a beautiful bridal hairstyle. So, it goes without question that you really want to avoid any wedding hair mistakes. Here are 8 of the most common wedding hair mistakes that are so easy to avoid.
Your Hair Style For The Wedding – and What Not to Do
1. Making radical changes to your hair right before your wedding
Now is not the time to try that new hair color or style that you’ve always wanted to test out. It’s quite possible that you may not like that new color or style as much as you thought you would, and getting your hair to look (as close as possible) to what it originally looked like will mean over processing, resulting in damaged hair. Definitely not what you want right before your wedding day.
2. Not taking your own hair into consideration
Sure, that hairstyle you’ve picked out looks amazing in the photo you tore out of that wedding magazine, and the one you found on Pinterest is so glamorous. But, that doesn’t mean it is suited to your own hair. Different types of hair textures and density (straight, curly, wavy, fine, thick, coarse, etc.) will affect the end result. Talk you your stylist about what will work best for your hair.

3. Not scheduling a hair trial before your wedding date
Doing a hair trial is so important. You get to know for sure that the hair style you have in mind will actually look the way you’ve imagined. And, since you’ll have time to do any tweaks and adjustments at the trial, your hairstylist will know exactly how you want your hair on your wedding day. Unless you are only wanting the simplest of blowouts, you won’t have any extra time to make adjustments on your wedding day.
4. Not doing any preparation before going to your hair trial
Before you do your hair trial, you’ll need to have some idea on what you want your wedding hair style to be. Curly updo, classic chignon, braid, sleek, voluminous waves? These are just some of the types of hair styles you can choose from. Go on Pinterest. Look through magazines. Search the web. Find photos of hair styles that you’d like for your wedding day, and bring them to your hair trial. Think about the theme and formality of your wedding, as well as your dress and veil style, as you want everything to come together in a cohesive look.
5. Not thinking about what you plan to do with your veil after the ceremony
Most brides choose to not wear their veil at the reception. Why? So they don’t have to worry about it getting stepped on all evening. (Imagine trying to dance while wearing a veil!) You’re going to be taking the veil off so you’ll want to make sure that it can be easily removed without messing up your hair style. If your veil is attached to a headpiece that you will be wearing all evening, have it attached to your headpiece with velcro.

6. Not bringing your accessories to the hair trial
Bring your veil/headpiece, earrings, necklace, hair extensions, and any other accessories you plan to wear on your wedding day to your hair trial. Like I mentioned in #4, you want everything to come together in a cohesive look.
7. Choosing an excessively elaborate hairstyle
The more elaborate the style, the longer it will take to style it. So, you’ll spend more time getting your hair done. Also, elaborate hairstyles can be a challenge to maintain throughout the day. You certainly don’t want your hair to be disheveled before you even cut your wedding cake or do you first dance with your new spouse.

8. Not considering a hair style just because an article you read said “this style is out”
Maybe what they say is “out” is how you like to wear your hair. So why shouldn’t you look like yourself on your wedding day?
For example, I recently read an article on “10 Hairstyles to Avoid on Your Wedding Day.” A couple of their “don’ts” were “a high ponytail” and “straight edge bangs.” But guess what? If you regularly wear your hair in a high pony, or have straight bangs it is perfectly okay to incorporate that into your wedding day hair style.
After all you want to look like the best version of yourself on your wedding day, right?
3 Things To Ask Your Hair Stylist At The Hair Trial
1. Should I wash my hair the morning of my wedding?
Unless your stylist says otherwise, it’s best to not wash your hair the morning of your wedding. Most hairstyles actually hold better with day-old hair.
2. How long should I set aside for my hair stylist on the wedding day?
You don’t want your wedding day timeline off kilter from the start because your hair stylist is taking longer than you thought it would take.
3. Can you do hair for other members of the wedding party?
If you’d like to have a your wedding party, and mothers have their hair professionally styled, you’ll need to make sure your stylist can accommodate several people, or can bring additional stylists.
