Wedding calligraphy is often associated with invitation suites, envelope addressing, and day-of stationery details. It’s a beautiful, traditional art form that adds a personal touch before the celebration even begins.
But calligraphy doesn’t have to stop there.
With live event calligraphy, personalization happens in real time, in front of your guests. Imagine your guests leaving with a personalized piece created right before their eyes—something they’ll keep, photograph, and remember long after the celebration ends.
Meet Danielle with Danielle Janeen Calligraphy, based in Columbus, Ohio. Danielle specializes in engraving, heat foiling, woodburning, and live event calligraphy.

Through luxury engraving and hand-lettering, your celebration is enhanced with bespoke, one-of-a-kind artistry—leaving each guest with a keepsake created just for them.

Wedding Calligraphy with a Twist: Live Event Personalization by Danielle Janeen Calligraphy
1. Tell us a little about your business and what inspired you to start it.
I’ve always loved writing, I started calligraphy during the pandemic as a creative outlet. I’ve never been a crafty, creative person and never thought my little hobby would turn into a growing business.
2. Describe your service/product you provide and how are you different from the rest.
I provide calligraphy & engraving services for brand activations, corporate & private events and in-studio commissions. I bring that “wow” factor to any event through live, onsite personalization. What makes me different is my attention to detail and I just bring me with my fun, whimsical flair.

3. What is your background?
My background is in medical billing but currently I’m a scheduling coordinator.
4. When did you first realize you wanted to work with weddings?
Last fall, after working with brand activations, corporate & private events, I realized I’d like to start offering my live personalization services to couples too.
5. What was your first memory involving calligraphy?
Buying a Crayola calligraphy book from Dollar Tree and thinking this could be really cool.

6. What is your favorite part of your job?
I love interacting with clients and guests, love seeing them ooh and ahh when they see their name written live, onsite.
7. What’s the most memorable piece of calligraphy you’ve done?
I wrote a letter for a client in Italian.
8. What types of items can be personalized?
I personalize a variety of items such as champagne flute glasses, shot glasses, passport covers, luggage tags, coasters, keychains, hair combs, claw clips, flasks, hats, etc.

9. What’s something couples might be surprised to learn about calligraphy or what you do?
Calligraphy is so much more than just writing pretty on paper, the possibilities are endless and no surface is safe. I can write on glass, leather, wood, etc.
10. Who receives the item after it’s personalized?
Both the couple and their guests can walk away with something personalized.

11. How does the process work?
I arrive 30-45 minutes early and setup everything, all I need is a table & chair, most of the time the couples provide the items to be personalized. I usually personalize items during cocktail hour/reception.
Guests are more than welcome to watch me personalize items, take pictures/video or mix & mingle and pick up items when ready. All of my equipment is small and portable. I have guests fill out a little form indicating what they want written and it only takes 2-3 minutes to write each one. When done, items are placed on a separate table for guest pickup. It’s a pretty seamless process.

12. Is there something that works best for certain types of weddings/events?
Really just depends on what the couples prefer, flute glasses, shot glasses & hat bars popular for weddings. Water bottles, luggage tags, flasks, coffee mugs are fun for corporate events. Engraved hair combs & clips, lipsticks, compact mirrors or a charm bar are nice for bridal showers or as bridesmaids gifts.
All services are available live or in-studio. Engraved perfume bottles make great gifts for your bride squad or mother of the bride/groom. Custom bridesmaids boxes are fun cuz your forever girls deserve more than a text.
