On April 14, take a moment to stop and give out a good laugh. Why? Because it’s International Moment of Laughter Day.
Laughter is the best medicine
It has been proven that laughing reduces stress, increases blood flow, and lowers blood sugar levels. It triggers the release of endorphins and gives the immune system a boost. Some studies have found that people who laugh just before going to bed are much more likely to sleep better than those who did not.
Laughter is contagious
What easier way to spread happiness than through laughter? Studies show that “the brain responds to the sound of laughter and preps the muscles in the face to join in the mirth.” (From LifeScience.com)

How to celebrate Moment of Laughter Day?
• Take a moment each day to read or watch something that makes you laugh
• Watch a comedy show or movie
• Collect jokes and share them with colleagues, friends, and family
Planning a wedding?
While you may not be getting married on the actual date of Moment of Laughter Day, you can inject some humor by:
• Having funny quotes on marriage printed on coasters (“Marriage is a lot like the army: everyone complains, but you’d be surprised at the large number that re-enlist.” – James Garner)
• Including an amusing RSVP card when you send out your invitations
• Inserting a little humor into your wedding vows (“I promise to turn on the air conditioning when you are hot, even if I am totally freezing.”)
Did You Know . . .
• Laughter can have a ha-ha-ha or ho-ho-ho structure, but it is impossible to have a ha-ho-ha-ho structure.
• Rats can laugh. Baby rats emitted a high-frequency chirp when a scientist at Bowling Green University tickled their necks.
• Some scientists believe that millions of years before humans developed a spoken language, laughter was as a way hey related and communicated with each other.
• Laughing for 10 to 15 minutes can burn up to 40 calories
