4 Easy Facebook Wedding Tips – What [Not To] Post

Facebook is a great tool. It certainly is an easy way to stay in touch with lots of people. And it’s also a great tool when you’re planning a wedding. You can research/vet vendors, get inspiration, and share your happy news and updates of your plans.

4 Easy Facebook Wedding Tips - What [Not To] Post

But just because you can post something, should you? Of course not.

Not everything should be posted. Here are 4 Facebook wedding tips of what’s best not to post:

Facebook Wedding Tips #1 – Posting A Photo Of You In Your Wedding Dress

You’re excited to have found your dress. It just seems natural to share this excitement on Facebook. But, do you really want a photo of your dress (and you in it) posted online before your wedding day? I know, you don’t have your wedding hairstyle and makeup, but it is your dress. It’s you in your dress. On your wedding day, before your partner has had a chance to see you in your dress, you don’t want anyone posting pics of you in your dress, do you? Why would you do it at the salon?

Facebook Wedding Tips #2 – Posting Your Relief (Or Joy) Of Someone RSVPing “No”

Getting RSVPs back is exciting too. And as much as we’d like to have everyone we’ve invited attend, we know it’s not realistic, so sometimes having someone decline is a good thing. Be careful about sharing this bit of “joy” online. While it will benefit your wallet, if a person who has declined sees your post, how do you think they’re going to feel? Even if it’s unlikely that they will see the post (not everyone is on Facebook), somebody will see it. And people talk. Word can get back to them. Think about how you would feel if someone posted something similar about you.

Facebook Wedding Tips #3 – Posting Thoughtless Hashtags

Wedding hashtags are fun, creative ways to express yourself and your wedding. But be thoughtful when choosing which hashtags to use. #JohnAndSaraTieTheKnot or #MikeAndSueSayIDo are cute (and easy to remember). #ImNotSingleAnymore or #NoMoreDating, while are happy sentiments for you, can make some of your guests who haven’t been so luck in love feel bad.

Facebook Wedding Tips #4 – Posting Rants

There’s so much that goes into planning a wedding. Luckily most of it is happy and fun. But . . . sometimes things can get a bit frustrating – particularly if you have well-meaning souls offering up unwanted advice, or how telling you how they think a wedding “should be, or not getting RSVPs back (c’mon people, it’s already addressed and stamped for you). However, Facebook is not the place to rant and complain about wedding guests, in-laws, or anyone else. If you wouldn’t say it in public, don’t say it on Facebook.
