Wedding Q & A – Bathroom Amenities Baskets

Q: I’m thinking about providing bathroom amenities baskets in the restrooms at our wedding. What should I put in them?

Wedding Q & A - Bathroom Amenities Baskets

A: A bathroom amenities basket is a thoughtful addition to your wedding. They are baskets filled with often-needed toiletries for guests to use while celebrating at your wedding reception.

You can go very simple, or very over-the-top, although, in our experience, a middle-of-the-road approach that covers the basics is best. You don’t need to be spending time and money on getting too fancy or providing things that just won’t be used.

Bathroom amenities for the guys:

Breath mints, stain remover pen or wipes, toothpicks, face tissues, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, a comb, lint roller, antacids, spray deodorant (always spray, never stick), bandaids, blister plasters, aspirin/pain reliever.

Bathroom amenities for the ladies:

All of the above, plus: brush, hair spray, tampons, panty liners, bobby pins and elastic hair ties.

For outdoor summer weddings, also include bug spray and sunscreen.

A small floral arrangement or bowl of potpourri is a nice touch. It looks pretty and can freshen the area too. And don’t forget a little sign, so guests know it’s ok for them to use the items if they’re needed.

Picking up travel sized products and saving any samples you may get can help you save money when putting together the amenities baskets.

A few things to consider before putting together your amenity baskets:

• Is there a shelf or table in the bathrooms? If so make sure the baskets or containers you plan to use will fit. If not, is there room to place a small table?

• Will there be small children at your wedding? If so, don’t put aspirin or any other type of medication in the baskets. You don’t want little hands getting into these. Instead, have the items on hand, but put a little sign next to the amenity basket to let guests know where they can get these, such as the front desk.

• Same thing with sharp objects (scissors, needles, or tweezers).

Restrooms at weddings are often overlooked, but used by everybody. A little effort and care goes a long way so your guests can fully enjoy themselves, by having access to the little things they may need. These little touches like bathroom amenities really do go a long way.
