If you are getting married soon, (or are just in the beginning stages of your wedding planning), why not curl up on the sofa with a bowl of popcorn and pick up a few tips from the wedding lessons that Hollywood has presented us with. We have picked out a few fun wedding movies here; each one of which has something worthwhile to offer you as you plan the big day. Of course, you will also have a little bit of fun and relaxation time too; just the thing if you are getting stressed with the organizational side of your wedding.

Put these movies on your watchlist

1. Bride Wars

This rom-com starring Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway has an important lesson to teach you. Always double-check with your reception venues before the big day.

Best friends Kate and Anne didn’t, and they ended up double-booking the same venue as each other, on the same day! Of course, this is Hollywood after all, so the chance of you double-booking a venue, especially with your best friend, is unlikely. But it won’t hurt to give your venue a call before the big day to ensure all is still going to plan, and perhaps have a conversation with your bestie too! After all, you don’t want to replicate the movie and go to war with your best pal because of a terrible blunder.

2. Bridesmaids

This hilarious comedy has two points to make. For starters, don’t eat Brazilian foods before your bridal fitting. If you have seen the movie, you will know what we mean. Let’s just say the result of eating spicy food with a sensitive stomach does not bode well when you and guests are trying on bridal dresses.

Secondly, consider the dietary requirements of your wedding guests. To avoid a similar gastric disaster, check with your guests beforehand on what they can and can’t eat. (Including a line on your RSVP card asking about special dietary requirements/allergies will do the trick). And while you can’t cater for every need, at least provide a choice of foods so there is something available for nearly everyone. Oh, and perhaps have a large sign pointing the way to the loo… just in case!

3. My Big Fat Greek Wedding

If you ever needed an excuse to cut down your guest list, let this movie be the incentive you need.

When you have a family as large as Toula’s you might not want to invite everybody, especially those people who threaten to embarrass you in front of your loved one. Not only will you be red-faced with horror and shame at those distant uncles and cousins who have a tendency to put their foot in it, but you’ll also be forking out for the expense of having them present at your wedding. Of course, inviting certain members of your family (even the embarrassing ones) may be unavoidable, but the least you can do is warn your intended partner of their quirks and idiosyncrasies, and then arrange your seating plan so they as far away from harm as possible.

We hope we have given you a few ideas for both your wedding planning and your movie watchlist, but let us know what you think.
