Generally, women tend to take the lead on making the decisions for their wedding and men don’t seem to mind too much. However, even if your bride has released you from most of the responsibilities, there are still a few things you need to keep in mind as the groom so as to avoid any hiccups on the big day. Here are five common mistakes and how to avoid them.
Staying Out Late Before the Big Day
Having your bachelor party the night before the wedding might be fun for your friends, but it could potentially end up being a big mistake for you. Not only will you be drained of the crazy amount of energy required to get through the reception, but it will also show on all the photos, too. You want to enjoy your big day and celebrate properly without a hangover, so try to get to bed as early as you can on the night before your wedding; you will have plenty of time to party at the reception.
Not Breaking In Your Shoes
High-heels are not the only shoes that could cause some serious pain. As the groom, you are also going to want to break in your wedding shoes ahead of the big day. No matter how tempting it may be to leave them in the box to keep them safe and clean, you need to spend a few days wearing them to soften them. Otherwise, your feet will end up bleeding and your bride will be left without her dance partner.
Getting Just Any Suit
Just because the bride generally tends to be the center of everybody’s attention, that doesn’t mean that the groom gets a hall pass when it comes to putting in the effort to dress up. One mistake a lot of grooms make is to think that a suit is simply a suit and that whichever one they get won’t make a difference. However, getting a suit that is just good enough is far from good enough; if it isn’t perfectly fitted, the people will notice. Opting for high quality tailored suits will make a world of difference. That way, you can get the exact dimensions you need as well as some personalized details which could get you almost as many compliments as your bride will get.
Getting Too Drunk
Almost every guest will want to have their special moment with you over a drink, so it’s easy to lose count when you keep toasting with different groups of people. You want to celebrate with everybody but you also don’t want to get too drunk and miss out on your own wedding. Make sure that you don’t forget to eat between the toasts and the photo ops so that the drinks don’t go to your head.
Abandoning Your Bride
The bride and groom should talk to all of their guests at some point, however, it is very easy to get lost in the chaos and forget about actually spending time together. It is necessary to make the rounds at the reception and thank everybody for being able to participate in the special day, but you need to remember that this day is about you and your bride. You want to show your guests some appreciation, but you absolutely must remind your bride just how much she means to you by looking for her in the crowd and having some one-on-one moments all through the evening. Don’t get stuck talking to your buddies at the bar for too long; instead, steal your bride for a spontaneous dance – your first dance shouldn’t be your only one.
These mistakes are easy to make but just as easy to avoid in order to have a wedding day both you and your bride will enjoy.
