Q. Is it ok to have non-flower wedding centerpieces and bouquets? I am not a flower lover! Everything else in the wedding seems more important to me personally, than wedding flowers. My decorator is really encouraging me to go with fresh cut all around, but this will be expensive. Should I pay, is it just me that doesn’t really care about flowers?
A. If you are not a flower lover, or maybe flowers are just low on your list of priorities, (and not important to your partner) then there is no reason to go extravagant on flowers, or to even use them at all. And never agree to something that you don’t want. I’m sure that what your decorator has in mind is probably quite beautiful and breathtaking, but. . .
. . . if you aren’t into flowers then why have them at your wedding?
I have seen many weddings that were very elegant, yet pretty minimal on flowers for the décor.
You can use other decorative elements that you prefer instead of flowers, such as candles (an inexpensive look yet such a beautiful ambiance), or white Christmas lights. If you want to include some flowers, maybe you’d prefer simpler floral centerpieces. Perhaps a tall slender vase with a couple colorful Gerber daisies or elegant calla lilies.
Using non-flower wedding centerpieces and bouquets is a fantastic way to infuse your personality into your décor. Options range from elegant to whimsical to everything in-between!
Colorful table overlays can add a nice splash of color and texture. Also, using greenery as an alternative to wedding flowers can add color and texture without costing a lot.

Before your next meeting with your decorator, make sure you have some type of decorative “style” in mind. Show her pictures from magazines (doesn’t have to be just wedding magazines, fashion and interior decorating magazines are great places for inspiration). Show her what appeals to you and what you don’t like.
After this discussion, she should be able to offer suggestions more in tune to what you have in mind. If she still insists on tons of flowers, are there any other decorators in your area you can turn to instead? Don’t pay for something you really don’t want, and don’t let anyone talk you into something you don’t want.

20) Horseshoe
Look into ethnic or cultural wedding traditions. Irish customs call for the bride to carry a horseshoe for good luck (with the open end up so the luck doesn’t run out).

If you prefer more whimsical wedding bouquet alternatives, how about a lollipop arrangement in the colors of your wedding, or a pretty bouquet made out of fabric roses? To make it even more special have fabric roses out of vintage fabrics, scarves, or even neckties from someone dear to you.
Of course, you could elect to carry nothing at all. It is your choice.
