A wedding expo (sometimes still called a bridal show) is one of the best ways to kick off your wedding planning. Held at venues ranging from convention centers to banquet halls — or even your local shopping mall — these expos can be huge (100+ vendors) or smaller and more intimate (10–20 vendors).

No matter the size, the main goal is the same: get a sneak peek at local professionals, see examples of their work, taste samples of cakes and catering, and collect brochures and information to help you plan your wedding.

While it’s tempting to try to do it all in a whirlwind, a successful expo visit is about being a savvy shopper — choosing the vendors who are the best fit for you. Here are some tips to make the most of your experience.

1. Create a game plan

Decide which types of vendors are your priority. Are you looking for a DJ? Still need a florist? Make a list of who you want to see most and visit their booths first. This helps you stay focused and ensures you don’t miss key vendors.

Before heading to a wedding expo, it helps to know your priorities and plan ahead. Our Wedding Pre-Planning Checklist is a clickable guide that walks you through budgeting, guest lists, venue selection, and more—so you’ll be ready to make the most of each vendor visit.

2. Register Ahead If Required

Many wedding expos now ask attendees to pre-register online—sometimes with an admission fee, and sometimes for free. This helps the show manage crowd size and gives you the convenience of skipping long lines at the door. Before you go, check the expo website for registration details, any fees, and any perks (like early entry or giveaways) for pre-registered attendees.

3. Bring the Essentials

  • Pen and paper – for notes about pricing, personality, and packages.
  • Tote bag – to carry brochures, business cards, and samples.
  • Address labels – saves time filling out contests and prize slips.
  • Cash or mobile payment – for admission (if required) or small purchases like snacks, drinks, or raffle tickets. Many vendors now accept credit/debit cards or apps like Venmo, but having a little cash can still come in handy.
  • Checkbook or credit card – in case you meet the perfect vendor and want to put down a deposit.

4. Wear Comfortable Clothes & Shoes

You’ll be walking and standing a lot! Comfortable shoes and clothing with pockets make it easier to carry business cards and small items. Consider leaving your coat in the car to lighten your load.

5. Limit Your Group

Bring just one or two people — a parent, your maid of honor, or your fiancé. They can help carry brochures and give opinions, but too many people can make it overwhelming.

6. Eat Before You Go

Some expos offer food, but not enough for a full meal. You’ll want a snack or meal before you arrive, even if you plan to enjoy sample bites along the way.

7. Take Notes

Write down pricing, packages, and your impressions. Was the vendor polite and helpful? Did they seem enthusiastic about their work? Notes will make it easier to remember your favorites after the expo.

8. Plan For the Fashion Show

Many wedding expos feature a bridal fashion show. If you want to attend, arrive early for a good seat. If not, use this quieter time to visit vendors while the crowd is distracted.

9. Don’t Feel Pressured to Book

Vendors may offer discounts for same-day bookings, but you don’t have to sign immediately. Take time to review your notes and decide which vendors truly fit your vision.

10. Read Everything Carefully

Before signing any contract or putting down a deposit, read all the details carefully. Make sure the services, pricing, and terms match your expectations. Ask questions if anything is unclear to avoid surprises later.

Now that you’re prepared, enjoy the wedding expo! Take notes, explore vendors, and have fun imagining your perfect day. And if you want extra help planning ahead, be sure to check out my Wedding Pre-Planning Checklist.
